Dream Job

How to look for a job in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwean economy has been on the decline since the late 90s, many companies closed or downsized reducing the number of available jobs on the market. With an unemployment rate of at least 47%, it isn’t easy to find a formal job. Graduates from formal institutions have gone for years without securing a job after graduating.

Here are some tips to help you in your job search:

Prepare your resume (cv)

Spend time creating and updating your resume. Your resume is what can make you stand out from the multitude of applicants.

Skills development

Work on new skills that can help you stand out. If there are widely recognized professional certifications in your field, do some of them.

Use online job search platforms

There are several online job search platforms that you can use to find job vacancies in Zimbabwe. Some prominent ones include joblink.co.zw, classifieds.co.zw, iHarare Jobs, Vacancy Mail, Vacancy Box, 263 Jobs. These platforms allow you to search for jobs by keyword, location, and industry.

Buy newspapers

For parastatals and legacy companies, newspapers remain the primary source of job vacancies. Sunday Mail which is a weekly paper is the top newspaper for finding opportunities. There is a section called JOB CENTRE which in my opinion is the most comprehensive vacancy listing center.

Check company websites

Many companies in Zimbabwe post their job vacancies on their websites. Check the websites of companies that you are interested in working for and look for job postings.

Network

Networking is essential when looking for a job in Zimbabwe. Attend industry events and conferences, connect with people in your field on LinkedIn, and reach out to people in your personal and professional networks to let them know that you are looking for a job.

Use recruitment agencies

There are several recruitment agencies in Zimbabwe that can help you find a job. Submit your resume to reputable recruitment agencies and work with them to find job vacancies that match your skills and experience.

Be proactive

Don’t wait for job vacancies to be advertised. Reach out to companies you are interested in working for and inquire about job opportunities. You can also submit your resume to companies even if they don’t have any job openings at the moment.

Be prepared for the interview

Once you secure an interview, make sure you are well prepared. Research the company, practice common interview questions and dress appropriately.

Conclusion

Remember that finding a job in Zimbabwe can take time, so be patient and persistent in your job search. Good luck!
