Job Description

WAICA Re’s PLC Corporation’s Head office is in Freetown (Sierra Leone) and operates through five (5) Regional Offices across Africa namely Lagos (Nigeria), Accra (Ghana), Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire), Tunis (Tunisia) and Dubai (United Arab Emirates). It also has four (4) Subsidiary Companies namely, WAICA Re Zimbabwe Limited in Harare (Zimbabwe), WAICA Re Kenya in Nairobi (Kenya), an investments company namely WAICA Re Capital, Accra (Ghana) and WAICA Re (United Kingdom).

Job Purpose

The Assistant Technical Accounting Officer will be responsible for identifying, verifying accounts based on contract conditions, line of business, and follow up on missing information to resolve any discrepancies with the clients and coordinate with other units (underwriting, business development and claims). The role shall be responsible for collating and dissemination of statements to debtors as well as following up on settlement of issued statements. With guidance from the Assistant Manager, Technical the role shall also be responsible for reinsurance claims recoveries, retrocession payments and treaty accounting and reconciliation.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Prepare insurance/reinsurance statement of account balance reconciliations.
  • Ensure quality analysis of insurance/reinsurance statement of accounts to support consolidated analytics and legal entity signoff.
  • Calculate/perform insurance/reinsurance financial account balance analytics.
  • Prepare audit support for internal audit reviews and external auditor.
  • Support and design appropriate and sufficient controls over insurance/reinsurance statement of account processes
  • Reviewing, reconciling, and processing treaty/account statements for assigned markets/clients.
  • Processing original premium, premium adjustments and claims, ensuring that all data is accurate and up to date.
  • Supply of technical and claim worksheet / confirmation numbers for allocation and pairing.
  • Electronically filing/uploading relevant transaction documentation to the system, ensuring accurate and consistent labelling, and proper audit-trail of the risk data entered the system.
  • Investigating inconsistencies, account discrepancies and related issues, and raising/resolving these in cooperation with the team leader
  • Ensuring accounts received are consistent with underwriting technical entries, if necessary securing missing accounts and invoices from brokers/cedents

REQUIREMENTS

  • First University Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Insurance.

Experience

  • 2 Years of experience in technical accounting or similar role within reinsurance/insurance
  • Experience working with all types of reinsurance treaties/facultative and associated accounting implications.
