The role is responsible for determining credit worthiness of borrowers, thus assess whether clients are good candidates for credit, loans, or financing options. The individual must strike a balance between maintaining relationships and ensuring timely delivery of duties. The Senior Credit Officer should exhibit professionalism and trustworthiness and must have excellent communication and negotiation skills, as well as the ability to work independently.

Key Result Areas:

  • Follows standardised processes and provides administrative support in line with normal business functioning.

  • Delivers on daily production standards and adheres to service and quality standards.

  • Provides an indirect service to customers.

  • Responds to immediate requirements within procedure.

  • Assesses creditworthiness of prospective borrowers.

  • Gathers and analyzes loan applicants’ financial data to evaluate risk.

  • Collaborates with other financial experts to approve or decline loans.

  • Makes recommendations about whether to increase, adjust, extend, or close lines of credit.

  • Examines financial transactions and credit history of applications.

  • Completes ratio, trend and cash flows analyses and creates projections.

  • Determines in depth the degree of risk involved and gives recommendations for loan facilities.

  • Carefully analyses data and produces clear and objective reports.

  • Routinely monitors loans for compliance with the credit policy.

  • Adheres to credit policy and guidelines.

  • Monitors corporate portfolio asset quality on an ongoing basis.

Experience and qualifications:

  • Have a minimum of three (3) years’ experience in Credit Management. Experience in MFI or Banking is a must.

  • Knowledge of financial statements and cash flow analysis, industry/market credit research.

  • Multi-skilled across products and processes.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and databases.

  • Degree in Risk Management, Economics, Finance or business-related degree.

  • Credit or Risk Management certification or equivalent.
