About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Finance Manager to oversee project financial management, analysis, reporting and accounting. You will be responsible for country programme accounting and financial management and ensure financial integrity of the project. You will provide consolidated financial plans and reporting for the project in line with client/donor and corporate and programme management requirements.

You will ensure that all financial matters are conducted professionally, while meeting Education Development Trust’s management and contractual standards, and complying with the country’s laws. Additionally, you will supervise the finance staff and provide financial information and analysis to the client, programme team, and stakeholders, while working closely with the project’s procurement, HR, administration, and management teams to fulfill contractual obligations.

Financial Management:

With oversight from the SSA Head of Finance, lead in the design, implementation and management of an efficient and effective financial controls and assurance environment in compliance with EDT internal controls requirement, donor requirements and regulatory requirement.

Financial Analysis and Reporting:

Responsible for all financial analysis and reporting requirements for the programme including monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for the client and EDT corporate requirements for the country. The position holder will be responsible for design and analysis of various adhoc reports required for monitoring and evaluation of the programme and country financial transactions.

Project Financial Management:

Design, implement and monitor an effective and efficient project level financial control environment including governance, asset management, treasury, compliance, reporting, and other fiduciary control aspects.

Accounting:

Responsible for management of the accounting system for the programme and country and in line with EDT global accounting requirements.

Person Specification

  • Bachelor of Business Administration (Finance & Accounting), Economics or relevant areas of discipline
  • CPA or ACCA -completed and certified
  • 6-10 years minimum post qualifying relevant experience preferably in the development sector (NGO, professional services)
  • Experience leading financial aspects of a huge, multi-year, multi-donor and multi-currency contract management and providing advice on complex financial management
  • Experience working with an ERP system (Business World On; highly desired)
  • Experience in preparing payroll
  • Experience in local taxes

About the organisation

Education Development Trust is delivering the Teacher Professional Development (TPD) component of the Teacher Effectiveness and Equitable Access for All Children Programme (TEACH) in Zimbabwe. The main objective of the TPD programme is to improve the quality of teaching and learning outcomes in Zimbabwean schools, adhering to leave-no-child-behind principle. This is a £12 million programme which will run until October 2025 and will focus on improving teacher effectiveness in the classroom at national, district and local levels by building teacher networks, provide targeted in-service teacher training and support to pre-service teacher training. The program seeks to achieve improved, equitable access in primary and secondary schools with greater participation, retention and attainment of the poorest children, marginalised girls and children with disabilities. The programme will also contribute to wider reforms in the national education system, including inspections and assessment at foundational level.
