Job Summary
Reporting to the Transport and Logistics Supervisor, the incumbent assists in the execution, direction and coordination of all transport matters of the University. The job also entails managing budgets, organizing schedules and routes, ensuring that vehicles are safe and meet legal requirements and ensuring that drivers perform their duties as expected. The logistics part involves the process of planning and executing the efficient transportation and storage of goods in a timely, cost-effective manner.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma in Transport and Logistics Management
- Clean Class 1 or 2 driver’s licence is a must
- Valid Defensive driving licence is a must
- At least 3 years experience in transport and logistics management
- Experience in a tertiary institution would be an added advantage
Duties and Responsibilities
- Planning and scheduling departmental transport requests on a daily basis
- Applying for route authorities from Ministry of Transport, Communication and Infrastructure Development
- Coordinating the operations, maintenance and repairs of University vehicles and generators
- Ensuring that University vehicles are roadworthy, branded, serviced and licensed timeously
- Ensuring that University generators are serviced timeously
- Liaising with Risk and Loss for the preparation of insurance claims for repair of accident damaged University vehicles
- Developing and implementing policies, standard operating procedures and safety protocols of the unit
- Generating and submitting weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports on the cost and status of the University vehicles and generators for purposes of decision making
- Managing resources in an economic, efficient and cost-effective manner, and in line with policies and standard operating procedures
- Conducting vehicles and generator inspections, maintenance, and servicing to minimise down time
- Monitoring vehicles and generators using Vehicle Tracking System
- Managing both bulk and allocated aspects of fuel
- Ensuring that each vehicle has a Log Book which is properly used by each driver
- Ensuring that vehicle repairs, maintenance and fuel records are produced and kept up to date
- Superintending over the routing and timetabling of the University fleet
- Leading investigations of vehicle accidents, incidences, damages, misuse and abuse
- Processing transport requests from University multi-campuses
- Handling of fleet related grievances, queries and complaints from University clients
- Supervising junior staff in the Transport and Logistics Section
- Performing any other duties as delegated by the Transport and Logistics Supervisor
