Rangelands Regeneration
Background:
Rangelands Regeneration has partnered with communities and local stakeholders to develop an Integrated Management Area (IMA) or ‘community conservancy’ in Beitbridge West. After an extensive consultation process, we’re launching Phase I of operations which includes building an active anti-poaching unit of 10-15 rangers.
Position Overview:
The Anti-Poaching Manager will oversee all aspects of the anti-poaching activities including recruitment, training, daily management, monitoring and reporting.This role is a 6-month fixed contract with a likely extension and potential for significant role growth as the operations expand.
DUTIES
Key responsibilities will include:
1. Anti-Poaching team recruitment and selection
a) Develop and then carry out a comprehensive recruitment and selection process.
2. Training
a) Design and implement a training program that equips the anti-poaching rangers with essential skills and instills an understanding of the significance of ongoing community engagement and positive relationships
b) Foster a sense of pride and responsibility among the team members, empowering them to act as ambassadors for the organisation
3. Day-to-Day Management and Patrols
a) Planning and coordinating anti-poaching operations, ensuring the effective deployment of resources and staff.
b) Developing and implementing mechanisms for information sharing, reporting, and monitoring of poaching and other incidents.
c) Manage and maintain project assets, such as vehicles and equipment, responsibility and professionally.
4. Monitoring, Reporting and Documentation
a) Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of anti-poaching efforts, including data collection and analysis to measure impact and identify areas for improvement.
Collaboration and coordination with other relevant authorities (e.g. Zimparks, other operators etc…)
Required Competencies
1. Leadership and Culture
a) Demonstrated managerial capability with an ability to provide clear and compelling direction, guidance and motivation to staff
b) Ability and desire to build a motivated team with a positive work culture
2. Strategic Planning and Decision-making:
a) Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
b) Ability to adapt operations to changing circumstances and handle high-pressure situations.
c) Organize and plan staff to ensure project impact is reached.
3. Communication
a) Ability to communicate with a wide range of audiences, including local communities, technical partners, RR staff and other stakeholders.
b) Preference to be able to communicate in Venda
4. Knowledge
a) Understanding of the principles and practices of anti-poaching and wildlife conservation, including knowledge of habitat protection, and ecosystem management.
Key selection Criteria:
- Demonstrated experience in a management role within an Anti- Poaching operation or security position
- Relevant qualification/s and certificates.
- Driver’s licence (ideally vehicle and motorcycle)
- Zimbabwean Citizenship
- Self-driven with strong leadership and team management experience, including ability to motivate, reach consensus, set objectives, and manage performance.
Residents of Beitbridge District Wards 7, 8 and 9 will be preferred for this role, however we welcome all applicants.
