Job Purpose

Under the supervision of the Operations manager the Safety and health officer shall improve the hygiene and sanitation practices of the Company. Ensure the implementation of Company’s Occupational Health and Safety guideline. Improve the Company’s Occupational health and safety Practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform all tasks in compliance with given safety, health and environment procedures, codes, standards and regulations.
  • Assist in the drafting monitoring and reviewing of SHEQ policies.
  • Assist in developing employee training or other programs to be implemented across the organisation.
  • Carrying out baseline risk assessments on new sites and design risk mitigation measures.
  • Implementing, maintaining and reviewing SHEQ management systems.
  • Evaluation of compliance at facilities in the areas of Environmental, Health, and Safety.
  • Maintaining compliance with the requirements of the NSSA act chapter 17.04 and Environmental Management Act chapter 20.27.
  • Implementing ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and ISO 9001 standards in our SHEQ systems.
  • Promoting employee health and safety through conducting workplace risk assessments to identify safety and health hazards and risks and developing hazard control methods, procedures and programs.
  • Interpret Environmental, Health, and Safety regulations and their applicability.
  • Training new workers in safety procedures and performing routine inspections to ensure compliance.
  • Complying and enforcing all pieces of legislation pertaining to the nature of business.
  • Assist in SHEQ audits through measuring, auditing and evaluating the effectiveness of hazard control programs.
  • Assist in the compilation of daily, weekly, monthly, annual SHEQ reports.

Qualification & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental and Industrial Science or related
  • A Master’s degree will be an advantage.
