DUTIES
This position provides the foundation for the section, comprising the roles of Consular Assistant in the American Citizen Services Section, Consular Cashier, and Administrative Assistant, while also providing support in project management and consular outreach. The position is supervised by the Vice Consul.
Qualifications and Evaluations
Requirements:
EXPERIENCE
Two years of progressively responsible experience in office administration work, including managing cash; and at least two years of work involving the application of relatively complex regulatory material along with extensive public contact is required. Work experience within a U.S. government agency, embassy or international organization is required.
JOB KNOWLEDGE
Applicant should have expert knowledge of common office management procedures including work processing, filing, telephone and telephone etiquette. Applicant should also be familiar with common Zimbabwean birth and nationality records and processes for acquisition of such documents. S/he should be conversant in non-immigrant visa processes and potential fraud indicators.
Education Requirements:
- College (2 years) or Post-Secondary School
- Two years of post-secondary education is required.
Evaluations:
LANGUAGE:
Level IV English (fluency reading, writing and speaking) is required and Level IV Shona or Ndebele is required.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The applicant should also be able to work well as part of a team and with other departments and agencies. Minimum 55 wpm typing, advanced computer skills with Microsoft Office suite, including Word and Excel. High level of interpersonal skills in dealing with the public, exercising tact and judgement on a daily basis. Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines while also a delivering a quality product. Ability to draft letters and memos in English in precise grammar and spelling.
