Population Services Zimbabwe
Reporting to the Program Director, the incumbent will;
Advocate in collaboration with partners for improved government policy positions legislation and financing for SRHR
Raise awareness on key SRHR priorities for PSZ;
Develop and build partnerships to advance work with national and county governments, implementing partners, civil society, private sector, and multilateral and bilateral agencies;
Provide guidance and ensure the organisation’s current and future projects are gender sensitive and transformative
Key Responsibilities
The incumbent will be responsible for the following, among other duties:
Advocacy
Design and lead the implementation of high impact advocacy efforts in line with PSZ strategic plan and donor deliverables.
Spearhead internal and external coordination of key advocacy issues for provision of comprehensive sexual reproductive health to women of all ages in Zimbabwe.
In consultation with partners, monitor and share progress on the achievement of in accessible and impactful ways.
Provide advocacy tools and products to colleagues and partners.
Monitor and map the national political landscape and developments, update the Law Policy and access Tool, in relation to PSZ’s work and how that affect operations.
Identify and establish networks and partnerships to make synergies among SRHR organizations (including regional human rights institutions, Civil Society Organizations and SRHR champions), for concerted SRHR lobbying and advocacy at regional level.
Contribute to GSO partnership mapping and reporting on national partnerships as required (twice a year)
Lead the development, packaging and communication to internal and external stake holders of PSZ key messages in relation to all PSZ advocacy priorities
Provide support (messages, communications materials and advise on tactics) in national and county governmental engagement as it pertains to our work through follow-up on MoU’s, technical working groups and forums support.
As part of the broader MSI advocacy team, the post holder will also contribute to various organizational tasks and processes needed to advance the advocacy, capacity building and protection objectives of the organization in the area of SRHR.
Exercise a high degree of accountability – ensuring timely submission of narrative and finance reports as required; and to embrace safeguarding as well as all organizational policies and values.
Developing PSZ’s key advocacy materials and write-ups that can be used in new business development
Internal and External Liaison and Communications for Advocacy
Develop and amend as necessary an organizational advocacy strategy
Chair and support the PSZ Internal Advocacy Working group to ensure a joined up and One advocacy strategy for PSZ
Develop engaging messages to communicate key external SRHR policies and values of PSZ to staff.
Identify and create talking points/Q&As for potentially sensitive issues in line with the organization’s advocacy priorities.
Develop and maintain excellent relationships with frontline national media (journalists), Communications staff and representatives of other NGOs, government institutions, UN Agencies among others.
Develop advocacy, and SRHR in Zimbabwe policy briefing for all new staff members as part of induction
Gender
Provide guidance and technical support to the organization on gender mainstreaming, gender transformative, and gender-sensitive programming.
Conduct gender analysis to identify gender inequalities and gender-based barriers that affect the lives of women and men, girls and boys in different contexts so as to inform the development of gender-sensitive programs and policies.
Identify and link staff to training and capacity building opportunities on gender mainstreaming, gender analysis, and gender-sensitive programming.
Conduct research and contribute to knowledge management on gender issues to inform policy and program development.
About You.
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Communications, International Relations, International Development, Social Sciences or a closely related field.
Masters Degree in a relevant social sciences field is an added advantage.
Minimum of 4 years of relevant and proven experience in designing and executing advocacy, and communications strategies and campaigns, preferably in the field of sexual and reproductive health, global health or global development.
Ability to think strategically, set priorities and manage concurrent projects, manage time effectively, exercise independent judgment and assume responsibility for seeing projects through to timely and successful completion
In-depth knowledge of SRHR policy landscape in Zimbabwe and the region.
Experience in writing content for various audiences including researchers, policy makers, donors, online influencers and others
Experience selecting and managing advocacy consultants
Deep personal commitment to sexual & reproductive health & rights for all
Ability to be bold, diplomatic and willing to champion a stigmatized issue
Self-motivated; willingness to work independently and as part of a team
Great interpersonal skills and able to work effectively in multi-cultural work environment and committed to promoting an inclusive culture where everyone is valued and belongs
Gender awareness and cultural sensitivity.
Good time management and problem-solving skills.
