Our mining client, a Blue Chip Employer, is currently seeking a Ventilation Manager to join their Mining team. The successful candidate will ensure safe and sustainable production at the mine through the provision of ventilation engineering as required for the planning and execution of all mining activities.
Your expertise must have been obtained from a formal qualification in Mining Engineering (specializing in mine ventilation) or another relevant discipline. Qualifications in Mine Environmental Control and/or Degree in Engineering or related Science in Occupational Hygiene with relevant experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
Maintenance of ventilation and occupational hygiene systems as well as to provide the immediate supervisor with information to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
Implementation and maintenance of an effective ventilation and occupational hygiene programme
Implement and maintain an effective ventilation and occupational hygiene programme to obtain optimum ventilation and occupational hygiene conditions in support of the objectives of the business unit or area or section plan.
Ensure all the legal requirements, group standards and policies are adhered to through monitoring and reporting
Report and advise management of Business Area on Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene matters
Participate in Mining Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene technology studies and provide solutions to specific matters.
Set targets and participate in audits
Risk assessment and risk control measures
Legal compliance monitoring
Ventilation and occupational hygiene standards and working guides
Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene coaching
Work on-site at the mine operations will be required. This may involve activities of a physical nature in a typical mine environment (for example noise, vibration, heat, small spaces, reduced visibility)
Qualifications and Experience
Qualifications in Mine Environmental Control and/or Degree in Engineering or related Science in Occupational Hygiene
Demonstrated application of academic qualifications through experience working in the field of Ventilation Engineering
Experience of at least 5 -10 years at managerial level in the Mining environment with computer knowledge in the specialised field.
Practical experience in Ventilation and Occupational Hygiene in the Mining or Ventilation Engineering fields.
Relevant practical experience in large Underground Mechanised mine is required
Experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of management systems and database formulation
Ability to balance strategic thought with delivery of tangible business outcomes
Timely, pragmatic, and effective decision-making drawing on limited inputs and sometimes incomplete information
Medical Certificate of Fitness to work underground.
