We are a General Intensive Care Unit with 6 beds. Being a general ICU means that we care for a huge range of patient’s with both surgical and medical needs, all requiring organ support.

This position is for 30 hours per week.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Health Care Assistant to work within our Intensive Care Unit team. The variety is appealing to those interested in a wide range of clinical scenarios.

We only have a small team of HCA’s in ICU, but their role is crucial to supporting both nurses and patient’s.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who is able to demonstrate a commitment to patient-centered care and support the ward on our ‘getting to good, aiming for outstanding’ journey.

Job Specification:

  • Assist the patient in all activities of daily living, with both direct and indirect supervision as delegated by a registered nurse.
  • Maintain patient comfort, dignity and privacy at all times.
  • Prepare patients drinks, serve meals and provide assistance as required.
  • Assist in the emergency resuscitation of patients, following appropriate training.
  • Escort patients to other areas and departments as per Trust escort protocol.
  • Maintain high standards of care in an environment which promotes equality and sensitivity for all individuals.

Person Specification

  • Good basic education i.e. GCSE grades A-C
  • Basic IT skills
  • Physically capable of performing the role and responsibilities expected of the post holder e.g. manual handling of patients
  • Ability to adapt to change within working situation
  • Previous care experience desirable but not essential
