THE ROLE
Checks equipment availability and serviceability prior and after patient evacuation and during change of each shift.
Cleans and disinfects all medical equipment after each call for infection control purposes.
Maintains and ensures adequate ambulance supplies that include linen, stationery, surgical sundries and drugs.
Checks and report base oxygen levels to the EMS for oxygen ordering.
Triages patients in mass casualty incidences to establish if additional resources are required.
Assesses and renders advanced emergency medical treatment to the patient prior to the evacuation. Ensures safe loading and off-loading of the patient by strapping the patient to the stretcher. Accompanies, monitors patient condition and records findings and interventions during evacuation as per Cimas Rescue Medical Protocols.
Determines appropriate medical facility for the patient based on the patient condition, location, level of care of hospital facilities and patient’s ability to pay.
Completes patient medical report and submits to the Emergency Medical Dispatcher for billing and record keeping purposes.
Presents and participates during medical debriefs following calls (for example mass casualties and complex procedures).
Attends continuous professional development and refresher training programs to maintain clinical competency in all emergency care procedures and equipment use.
Conducts patient follow ups and updates the referring Doctor on patient progress.
Checks and advises the Team Leader – Operations and Training of near expiring drugs or surgical sundries in the ambulance three months before the expiry date.
Writes and report on shift activities (such as pre-booked calls, incidents, equipment left on patients) to incoming shift.
Presents daily reports on calls during daily morning debriefs.
Facilitates First Aid training and any other training within scope of certification.
THE PERSON
Diploma in General Nursing.
Ambulance Technician or Emergency Medical Technician Certificate. |
Valid practicing certificate.
2-4 years’ experience in Emergency Medical Services.
