Job Description
People’s Own Savings Bank (POSB) is searching for a talented Legal Research Officer to handle the bank’s legal transactions, partnerships, and projects. Reporting to the Company Secretary and Legal Advisor, the incumbent will be responsible for undertaking legal research and analysis, writing reports and legal opinions to support effective decision-making in providing corporate and legal services
Other duties will include consulting and contributing to corporate legal processes such as mergers, compliance issues, transactions, partnerships, and lawsuits. The successful candidate will have outstanding negotiation and communication skills, with sharp attention to detail.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Conduct research on legal issues relating to the Bank’s operations and prepares written opinions, working papers and reports.
- Undertake an extensive review of legal documents, instruments and other material-identified issues and propose amendments.
- Prepare briefs and preliminary drafts of legislative legal material.
- Develop and maintain up-to-date repository of laws, judgments, contract precedents and other materials.
- Contribute to the review and formulation of recommendations to amend legislation pertinent to the banking sector.
- Assist in drafting legal documents such as contracts, agreements, opinions and briefs and prepares memoranda, letters and other documents.
- Represent the department on committees and at meetings, conferences and workshops.
- Liaise with other divisions and external agencies regarding the work of the department.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Bachelor of Law degree from a recognized institution.
- Post Graduate Qualification e.g. CIS, MBA or ACCA is an added advantage
- At least five years of proven experience in the legal environment.
- Knowledge of banking laws and regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
