Action Contre La Faim

Created in 1979, Action Contre La Faim is a non-governmental organization that fights against hunger. Its charter of humanitarian principles – independence, neutrality, non-discrimination, free and direct access to victims, professionalism, and transparency – has been part of its identity for more than 40 years. Its mission is to save lives by eliminating hunger through the prevention, detection and treatment of under-nutrition, particularly during and after emergency situations linked to conflicts or natural disasters. Action Contre La Faim focuses its actions on 5 main areas of expertise: Nutrition and Health – Mental Health and Care Practices, Gender and Protection – Food Security and Livelihoods – Water, Sanitation and Hygiene – Advocacy. In 2018, Action Contre La Faim provided aid to 21 million people in more than 50 countries worldwide.

ACF has been working in Zimbabwe since 2002 and over the years, has been a key humanitarian actor in the country. Since 2015, ACF has adopted an intervention strategy focused on localization and capacity
development through partnerships, in particular with two national organizations, NAZ (Nutrition Action
Zimbabwe) and AA (Africa AHEAD). ACF has increased the size of its mission in the course of last year to adequately respond to the rising humanitarian needs.

Responsibilities:

Mission 1: Contribute to portfolio implementation and across program sectors.

 Support in production of sector/technical documents through literature review, internet search, drafting
and writing of text blocks and sections, formatting, quality checks etc;
 Support in compilation of program sections in donor and HQ reports;
 Take part in technical and sector meetings;
 Contribute programme data and knowledge management, ensure technical information are up to date
on NHF;
 Support capturing and use of learning, technical development, and departmental research;
 Liaise with partners and support on quality planning, implementation and review of activities;
 Participate in field visits.

Mission 2: Participate in the timely implementation of ACF MEAL tools, activities, and reporting.

 Support timely and quality data collection, (needs assessments, household registration, baseline/endline surveys and others) by participating in the drafting the necessary quantitative and qualitative tools (ToR and data collection tools, including coding) for review and validation by the technical team;
 Take part in the implementation of MEAL plans through routine monitoring of activities at the field level;
 Support teams to pilot data collection tools and take part in the integration of the findings into the final tools by providing feedback/error reports;
 Support the project’s use of mobile data collection by leading on the process and perform timely and quality data cleaning on all data collected;
 Take part in the timely and quality data analysis of MEAL data for different projects as needed through Excel or other statistical software for review and validation by the Deputy MEAL Manager.
 Participate in the timely and quality reporting of MEAL activities implemented by the programs team (surveys, monitoring activities…), monthly, quarterly and annually;
 Supporting research work and writing research papers;
 Lead on content creation and management of the organisation’s social media platforms;
 Supporting the production and release of communication materials including written, audio-visual and digital content;
 Program databases management;
 Organising and leading learning events.

Mission 3: Timeous implementation of admin activities and provision of support to other teams.

 Ensure proper management of the devices used in the field;
 Ensure timely request and drafting of ToRs for field visits working closely with the support departments;
 Ensure that liquidations are done timely in line with finance procedures;
 Safeguard all ACF tools under your care including laptops and other MEAL tools;
 Taking videos and pictures during filed visits and organization of events;
 Support program teams when necessary;
 Any other duties as assigned.

Experience and Skills required:

 Graduate of a Development program (WASH, Agriculture, Climate Change or any relevant field).
 Experience/Background in technical project implementation, research and communications or social media marketing is a pre-requisite.
 At least 1 year attachment and proven experience in a reputable organisation.
 Demonstrated knowledge of Programs or MEAL concepts, quality standards and technical understanding (for sectors above).
 Experience of data collection, collation, analysis, and exposure to report writing.
 Professional, motivated, open, creative, responsible, flexible and, culturally sensitive.

 Excellent verbal and written skills in English.
 Excellent computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Excel, spreadsheets. Basic knowledge of Sphere standard, SPSS, SPHINX, or other statistical packages an added advantage.
 Willing and able to be based and travel regularly within remote areas, where services are limited.
 Strong interpersonal and community norms understanding.
 Basic knowledge in statistical analysis.
