About
Zimbabwe Health Interventions (ZHI) is a not-for-profit human development organisation which is registered as a Private Voluntary Organisation (PVO 17/22). ZHI’s mission is to develop and deliver innovative and sustainable high-impact, integrated health interventions to the communities we serve, while working with and strengthening existing institutions.
The Accelerated and Comprehensive HIV Care for Epidemic Control in Zimbabwe (ACCE) project a five-year funded USAID / PEPFAR funded HIV Care and Treatment whose main objective is to complement the government of Zimbabwe (GOZ)’s efforts towards epidemic control. This will be achieved by targeting testing to efficiently identify PLHIV, ensuring all newly diagnosed PLHIV are immediately linked to treatment, and all PLHIV on treatment have ready access to antiretroviral therapy (ART), are retained on treatment, and remain virally suppressed. The program is being implemented in 9 districts in Midlands (Gweru, Kwekwe, Mberengwa and Gokwe South) and in Manicaland (Makoni, Mutare, Chipinge, Mutasa and Buhera)
Basic Function
The Program Communications Officer position will provide leadership to the implementation of the communication strategy and communication plans. The incumbent will provide technical support to the Zimbabwe Health Interventions’ projects i.e (ZHI) Accelerated and Comprehensive HIV Care for Epidemic Control in Zimbabwe (ACCE) project and the Re-Ignite, Innovate, Sustain and Empower project’s n communications and advocacy work; The incumbent will lead the development and dissemination of content to promote the ZHI ACCE project brand, activities, and impact; The incumbent will be responsible for enhancing ACCE project’s visibility with its donor, beneficiaries, partners and the public by generating project success stories, social media posts, webinars and other visibility products; This includes providing consultative review and editing of internal ZHIs communications to ensure accuracy and clarity of message and tone; This position will play an important role in telling ZHI and ACCE project stories; Ensure that the ZHI ACCE project brand remains top of mind; This incumbent will work closely with Communications and Stakeholder Engagement Advisor (CSEA)and ZHI ACCE project leadership.
Job Description
Implement and monitor the program/ projects communication strategy by coordinating and managing overall communications and advocacy portfolio, which include building relationships with local as well as international media; Develop communication, media and marketing products i.e fact sheets, annual reports, program briefs, website content, newsletters, brochures, blogs, and other communications products including contractual project report, success stories etc in consultation with the project COPs and technical staff; Support program documentation/communication materials for various audiences and stakeholders; Support the development ,copy edit and proofread program documents, such as success stories, weekly bullets, technical briefs, reports; and ad-hoc communications document requests for conferences and meetings such as abstracts, posters, and PowerPoint presentations; Develop innovative communication products that will promote treatment literacy/ regular public dialogue on identified HIV care and treatment advocacy themes in media, electronic platforms including e-learning/e-discussion, factsheets, and policy briefs; Provide technical assistance to MOHCC in communication technical working groups; Social media and website management; Increase project, donor and ZHI visibility by creating, developing and managing content for social media platforms and ZHI website; Translate programmatic evidence-based materials and hard data and beneficiary stories into compelling human impactful stories / narratives; Photograph/ film and edit visual content that documents project activities; Managing the ZHI social media platforms, drive and monitor growth and engagement across relevant social media platforms; Communication events management: Plan, lead and coordinate in-person and online events including launches, public discussions, webinars and conferences, exhibitions, awareness and demand generation campaign and events; Maintain a calendar of key dates and events of local, national and regional significance to the ZHI projects, which may require communications support; Lead the preparation and updating of the project/s standard information package for distribution to the public, media and stakeholders.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Knowledge and experience in communications related to international public health and/or development; Well versed in health, HIV, TB, STI and GBV programming; Articulate, professional and be able to communicate in a clear, positive manner with donors andstaff; Outstanding information gathering skills and good analytical skills; Highly responsive to internal and external communications requests; Skilled in presenting information to different audiences, including media; Proven writing skills, editing, design, videography, or photography skills a must; Demonstrated skill in program communication, development of information and communication material; Self-starter, proactive, strategic thinker, and possess strong negotiation skills for the purpose of soliciting cooperation; Strategic thinker with meticulous attention to detail, working well under pressure, and meeting deadlines; Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced environment; Ability to produce analytical and well-presented reports and publications; Computer skills (MS Office applications, databases, online collaboration platforms, email, andinternet). Video and audio editing skills is preferred; Ability to travel to implementation districts a minimum of 50%.
Qualifications And Experience
Must have a bachelor’s degree in Media and Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations or a closely related discipline; Master’s degree in the above-mentioned fields is advantageous; A minimum of three years as a media or communication officer; Demonstrated experience in communication, writing, editing, graphic designing and publications; Experience in networking with media, and public policy formulation is ideal; Broad experience of HIV prevention, care, and treatment programming is preferred; Experience working in public health/international development programs funded by US government or other international donors will have an added advantage; Experience in working and managing relations with multiple projects and stakeholders; Strong understanding of the development context in Zimbabwe, and communication needs of donors such as USAID.
