Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE)

Introduction
The Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education (ZIMCHE) was established by an Act of Parliament, [Chapter 25:27], in 2006, to promote and coordinate education provided by higher and tertiary institutions, superintend over standards, act as a regulator in the determination and maintenance of examinations, academic qualifications and research.

Job Profile
The ICT Technician is responsible for the day-to-day troubleshooting of ICT software and hardware systems. The incumbent ensures that ZIMCHE staff can efficiently and effectively access the various ICT information systems and infrastructure.

As a member of the ICT team, the incumbent is expected to proffer solutions to increase the quality of service to clients.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintaining a repair and maintenance schedule
Provide technical assistance and support to users regarding software, hardware and network issues
First level repairing of equipment that is out of warranty:
Laptops
Desktops
Printers
General upkeep of the computer network including minor repairs
Configuration of various information systems
Assist in implementing and maintaining security measures to protect computer systems and computer networks.
Training of users in the incumbent’s areas of interest and expertise
Advising the ICT Manager with regard ICT access and usability

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

The incumbent should possess the following qualifications:

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent degrees in information technology.
A Higher National Diploma in Information Technology or equivalent would be an added advantage.
A CompTIA A+ certification, or equivalent, would be an added advantage.
Working knowledge of Windows Server
Working knowledge of Linux
Familiarity with Office 365
At least 2 years’ experience in a technical support role
Proven ability to perform the tasks as required.
