Lamcent Capital is a private equity firm operating in Zimbabwe. A vacancy for a Transport Manager has arisen at one of its subsidiaries. The subsidiary (the company) is involved in both local and cross-border logistics operating a fleet of 30t and 34t flatbeds and sideboards.

Job Summary

The Transport Manager will be responsible for overseeing the overall operations of the company and driving the company strategy. The Transport Manager will be expected to effectively and efficiently manage the logistics operations, ensure operational efficiency, optimise costs, and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction. The incumbent has strong leadership skills, strategic thinking, and a deep understanding of the logistics industry in the SADC region.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Operations Management:

1.1 Oversee the day-to-day operations of the company and ensure efficient and timely delivery of goods.

1.2 Optimize routes and schedules to maximize efficiency and minimize costs.

1.3 Coordinate with drivers, dispatchers, and other staff to ensure smooth operations and timely communication.

1.4 Implement and maintain standard operating procedures to meet safety standards and comply with regulations.

2. Fleet Management:

2.1 Manage the company’s fleet of trucks, ensuring proper maintenance, compliance with regulations, and timely repairs.

2.2 Coordinate the maintenance team to ensure all vehicles are in good working condition and perform regular inspections.

2.3 Monitor fuel consumption, vehicle utilization, and driver productivity to optimize fleet performance.

2.4 Implement strategies to minimize vehicle downtime and reduce maintenance and operational costs.

3. Financial Management:

3.1 Develop and manage the company’s annual budget, including revenue projections, cost estimations, and financial analysis.

3.2 Monitor expenses, control costs, and identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising on service quality.

3.3 Review financial reports, identify trends, and implement corrective actions to address any deviations from targets.

3.4 Negotiate contracts with vendors, suppliers, and customers to ensure favourable terms and pricing.

4. Team Leadership:

4.1 Recruit, train, and supervise a high-performing team of logistics professionals.

4.2 Set performance goals and provide regular feedback to individuals and the team.

4.3 Foster a positive work culture, encouraging teamwork, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

4.4 Resolve conflicts, address employee concerns, and promote professional development.

5. Customer Relationship Management:

5.1 Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, understanding their needs and providing exceptional service.

5.2 Address customer complaints or issues promptly, seeking resolution and taking appropriate measures to avoid recurrence.

5.3 Identify business opportunities, negotiate contracts, and secure new customers based on strategic fit and profitability.
