Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill this position which has arisen at the Women’s University in Africa.

The Dean plays a pivotal role in the University’s Senior Management structure, providing overall leadership and management functions. The Dean is the Chief Academic, Administrative and Financial Officer of the Faculty and is responsible for all planning in specific areas of academic leadership, human capital, budgeting, academic programmes, community outreach, innovation, research, income generation, equipment and other Faculty matters. The successful candidate will be appointed on a four (4) year fixed term contract subject to renewal based on performance.

The Dean will report to the Pro Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs).

Duties and Responsibilities
Provide academic leadership in the areas of teaching, learning, community outreach, research, innovation and industrialisation;
Ensure that departments engage in research projects to contribute to new knowledge and as part of service to the community;
Develop effective marketing strategies for University programmes to both the private and public sectors;
Generate income for the institution through Faculty initiatives with emphasis on Research and Development;
Develop a sense of community for the Faculty students, academic and support staff regardless of gender, race and/or religion;

Link the Faculty with industry and commerce;
Provide overall leadership and management functions on the Faculty;
Plan and control human resources, budgets, academic programmes, departmental equipment and other Faculty matters;
Attend Council, Senate and Academic Board meetings;
Prepare policies and regulations for academic programmes;
Organise staff development internally and externally;

Promote excellence in teaching and research;
Coordinate academic programmes;
Counsel students and staff; and
Supervise the teaching and learning process.

Qualifications and Experience
Preferably possess an earned Doctorate in a Social Sciences discipline;
A distinguished scholar of repute with credibility among peers;
Proven management skills and should have at least served a term as a Chairperson of a department in a reputable University;
Demonstrated ability to forge partnerships and garner support from campus, business and community constituencies leading to industrial attachment and employment opportunities for students and generating external funding for research and teaching;
Demonstrable innovativeness; and
Demonstrable ability to offer academic leadership.
