Judicial Service Commission

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill the positions of MAGISTRATES which have arisen within the Judicial Service Commission. The Commission is a dynamic organization that comprises of competent and professional staff. The vacancies to be filled are around Zimbabwe.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The key roles and responsibilities of a Magistrate are for
a) Preside over criminal cases, civil cases, maintenance inquiries, juvenile court cases and claims in the Small Claims Court;
b) Assess the propriety of deposit fines;
c) Act as a Marriage Officer;
d) Preside over appeals from Local Courts;
e) Inspect Prisons and other holding cells as a visiting justice;
f) Conduct inquests into sudden deaths;
g) Supervise support staff.
THE PERSON
a) Must be a holder of a good law degree or equivalent legal qualification from a recognized university;
b) Be a fit and proper person for appointment to judicial office.
Former magistrates who resigned with clean disciplinary records and wish to be considered for appointment are encouraged to apply.
In selecting the appropriate candidates, the Judicial Service Commission endeavours to comply with section 184 of the Constitution which requires judicial appointments to reflect broadly the diversity and gender composition of Zimbabwe.
