Job Description
Job summary:

The Nutrition Assistant will provide Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition technical expertise in support of the project in Mwenezi. The Nutrition Officer will be responsible for coordinating the implementation of Maternal and Child Health and Nutrition components that contribute to the overall success of the Project.

Main Duties:

Key Result 1: Ensure implementation of project activities as defined in the project document.

Technical Support:

  • Serve as the lead nutrition and health resource person at district level per agreed harmonized consortium approaches.
  • Organize and lead sensitization sessions for DFNSCs and other district stakeholders on infant young child feeding trainings.
  • Facilitate the roll out of technical trainings (Care Group Methodology, SAA and Male Engagement) in the targeted district using an agreed consortium approach.
  • Roll out technical trainings (Care Group Methodology and Male Engagement) for sub district resource persons including Village Health Workers (VHWs) and nutrition facilitators per the agreed approach.
  • Monitor community trainings for technical area and develop a strategy to improve and maintain quality.
  • Lead  community level recruitment of project participants for groups including Care Groups.
  • Conduct SAA sessions with FNSCs, Care Groups, Men’s Fora, health service providers and VHWs.
  • Organize and lead sensitisation meetings with the local leaders on the Care Group methodology, SAA, and male engagement.
  • Support and supervision of Health facilities in the implementation of Integrated management of Acute malnutrition (IMAM).
  • Actively participate in  the IMAM data collection, analysis and compilation of quality reports on program performance.
  • Develop workplan for and implement regular review meetings for technical area.
  • Contribute to the development of different tools needed for proper implementation of the project.
  • Ensure high quality content for project beneficiaries’ trainings.
  • Provide technical support/backstopping to ward level staff.
  • Monitor project implementation and provide technical support to project staff, stakeholders and beneficiaries.

Key Result 2: Ensure timely routine reporting of the project .

Activities:

  • Produce timely reports for internal use and sharing with relevant external stakeholders on the status of on-going programming.
  • Participate in weekly/ monthly district meetings.
  • Generate weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports (narrative and quantitative)
  • Ensure that activity and training reports are compiled and submitted on time.
  • Compile statistical data and draft appropriate reports on activities.
  • Analyse nutrition situation and prevailing trends and provide constructive written feedback.
  • Participate during project assessments as may be determined by the project.
  • Documentation of best and emerging practices for learning purposes and increase project visibility.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Nutrition
  • Working experience of at least two years in Nutrition specific and sensitive programming.
  • Class 3 driver’s license is an added advantage
