Job Purpose
Planning, implementing and supervising Public Health Activities
Duties and Responsibilities
- Formulate and administer comprehensive public health programs based on needs and available resources; make recommendations to and consult with the Deputy Director on general policies and procedures, goals and proposals and methods of service delivery for public health
- Directly or through subordinates direct work of professional, technical and administrative staff engaged in the delivery of Public Health services; determine types and levels of services to be provided and standards by which delivery will be evaluated; direct the preparation of annual budgets, health care plans and funding applications, monitor and evaluate service delivery
- Disseminate, intepret and implement policies, laws and regulations related to public health to department staff and medical clinics, and schools; develop positions on proposed legislation
- Consult and coordinate with state health officials and representatives of local public and private health agencies in the enforcement of health laws and the development of programs to meet public health needs
- Enforce the rules, orders and statutes related to public health
- Authorise the closing of commercial food establishments found to be in violation of environmental health laws
- Serve as point of contact with state for updates and mandates on a variety of programs, such as AIDS, immunisation sexually transmitted diseases, and environmental health, communicate information and mandates to Deputy Director and coordinate appropriate responses
- Supervise the preparation of epidemiological reports, analyze epidemiological data in order to determine where to direct department resources to meet public health needs
- Any other relevant duties assigned by supervisor
Qualifications and Competencies
- 5 O Levels including English Language, Mathematics and Science
- Degree in Public Health
- Valid Practicing Certificate
- Very good writing skills
- Good interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent networking skills
- Strong interest in HIV/AIDS issues
5 years working experience
Clean Class 4 Driver’s Licence will be an added advantage
Be able to work under pressure
Should be able to work under minimum supervision
