Job summary

We have an opportunity available for a Radiotherapy Support Worker / Care Coordinator to be an extended member of the site-specific Advance Practice Team to assist with their workload and provide clinical and administrative support.

You will help in new patient, on treatment and follow up Clinics providing basic level information and support for patients and their carers during the radiotherapy pathway.

You will coordinate and facilitate radiotherapy and concomitant chemotherapy schedules and maintain standards in the management of patients while being responsive to the social and healthcare needs of the individual patient, at all times respecting the privacy and dignity of the patient.

Main duties of the job

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • -GCSE English Language and Mathematics at Grade A-C or equivalent -NVQ4 or NVQ3 plus training to diploma level equivalent, or equivalent through short courses

Desirable

  • -Coaching or teaching qualification

Experience

Essential

  • -Experience in or a good understanding of health and social care services and pathways -Experience of working within a team of health care professionals

Desirable

  • -Experience of working with electronic medical record systems -Experience of co-ordinating a patient workload -Experience of stock management and safe storage -Data management experience

Knowledge

Essential

  • -Evidence of continued personal and professional development

Desirable

  • -Knowledge of cancer pathways, treatment options and terminology, in particular radiotherapy process -Knowledge of clinical research / service development

Skills

Essential

  • -Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing on a daily basis with people of all levels -Understanding of patient centred care -Ability to self-manage time effectively and efficiently -Demonstrate ability to prioritise and manage a patient workload -Basic IT skills including word processing and simple database entry -Good organisational skills and ability to problem solve -Awareness of own limitations and ability to refer onwards / seek advice -Ability to concentrate and perform role in busy clinical environments
