You will be qualified to NVQ level 2/3 in Care/Health and will have proven previous experience of hospital or community patient care. You will have excellent communication skills, the ability to work as part of a supportive multi-disciplinary team and a strong commitment to the provision of high quality patient care.

Main duties of the job

  1. Assist in delivering a high standard of holistic care to patients, promoting their equality and dignity at all times.
  2. Assist with patient hygiene, mobility, physical comfort, eating and drinking, whilst observing and reporting specific changes.
  3. Undertake last office procedure and provide support for the family/friends.
  4. Perform and report clinical observation of a patient’s temperature, pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure, peak flow and oxygen saturation. Obtain measurement of a patient’s height and weight.
  5. Observe and report changes in patients’ conditions to the Registered Nurse or team or shift Co-ordinator.
  6. Obtain urine, stool and septum specimens and perform urinalysis.
  7. Perform basic life support and give assistance to professionals during advanced life support techniques.
  8. Routine and post arrest check of resuscitation, oxygen and suction equipment.
  9. Communicate effectively within the multidisciplinary team.
  10. Assist in the maintenance of ward cleanliness.
  11. Assist in the maintenance of stock levels.
  12. Transport blood and blood products.
  13. Administer suppositories, pessaries and prepared enemas.
  14. Remove urethral catheters.
  15. Remove peripheral intravenous cannulae.
  16. Enter data onto HISS system
  17. Undertake a patient’s basic admission procedure in preparation for professional assessment.
  18. Give formal verbal/written handover of patient care.

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in health related subject ? 4 GCSE’s or equivalent

Desirable

  • Working towards foundation degree or equivalent.

Experience

Essential

  • To have worked within an acute hospital setting ? Assisting with surgical procedures ? Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team

  • Clinic work

Essential

  • Demonstrate awareness of the needs of Neuro patients ? Understanding of the anxiety, distress and confusion of some patients and relatives. Recognise the extent and limitations of own and others competence

  • Well developed verbal and written communication skills. ? Well developed interpersonal skills – able to liaise effectively with a wide range of people including medical staff, patients and relatives. ?
