The Women’s Health Unit is a complex in- patient and out-patient/ day case service for gynaecology patients and is open 7am – 10pm, 7 days a week. The post holder will be expected to work in turn, evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

A variety of treatments and procedures are undertaken, including the medical and surgical management of miscarriages and termination of pregnancies.

Applicants must be currently working in a health care setting (or have experience within the past 12 months) and be able to work under their own initiative and as part of the multi-professional team. Experience of caring for patients receiving gynaecology care would be advantageous, but not essential as a full induction period and subsequent support will be in place. Experience of working within both in-patient and out-patient services would also be an advantage.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential

  • Healthcare related NVQ qualification (or equivalent) or willingness to work towards.
  • Completion of The Care Certificate

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Able to organise and prioritise own workload
  • Ability to work effectively within a team
  • Understands the limitations of the Healthcare Assistant role and sphere of practice

Desirable

  • Competent in phlebotomy/cannulation

Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of being able to work alone, under the supervision of a qualified member of staff
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Currently working in a health care setting

Desirable

  • Experience in gynaecology services
  • Experience in out-patient & in-patient services in an acute hospital environment
