Job summary

The role of the Health Care Assistant is to assist the qualified nurse to:

  • Provide direct care and support to the patient as delegated by the qualified nurse.
  • Maintain a clean safe environment for patients and relatives.
  • Assist with clerical and housekeeping duties.
  • Contribute to maintaining the unit’s philosophy of care.
  • To be able to work in a learning environment, providing a high standard of nursing care and support.
  • To work flexibly according to the needs of the department and to support outpatients services across site where required.

Main duties of the job

As a member of the nursing team participates in establishing a good working environment in which patients receive a quality service.

  • Demonstrate a sensitive and caring attitude towards patients and their relatives and friends.
  • Take an active role in maintaining effective communication with all disciplines, patients and relatives.
  • Promotes positive health by assisting clients to be self-caring.
  • Participate in introducing new members of staff to the department and supporting other team members.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of security and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate a responsible attitude towards ensuring the effective and efficient use of resources.
  • Work within trusts and unit policies and practices.
  • Contributes to the health and safety of the care environment.
