Job responsibilities

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties and responsibilities

Clinical and Patient Care

  • To support qualified staff in the assessment of health needs, planning, delivery and evaluation of care for a number of individuals or groups of patients, including clinical risk assessment
  • To exercise an agreed degree of professional autonomy and make judgements and decisions in order to satisfy the expectations and demands of the job.
  • To assist in maintaining record charts such as nursing observation, weight, temperature, pulse and respirations
  • To undertake clinical work and related tasks as delegated by qualified nursing staff.
  • To assist registered staff in the implementation of individual nursing care plans and the implementation of the patient care pathways.
  • To liaise effectively with all stakeholders in the care process, including carers and relatives, aspiring to provide an effective, seamless and integrated service to patients.

To attain the competencies of Visual Acuity, eye pressure measurement, instillation of eye drops under the supervision and guidance of the qualified staff nurse, technical skills of OCT, HRT, auto-refraction and visual fields having followed the Trusts required protocol. This list is not exhaustive but

  • gives an outline of the core competency skills that are required in this role in the clinic environment.
  • To act as chaperone when required.
  • To assist with the monitoring of equipment and stocks as required.
