Organizational Setting
The Coordination Unit for Animal Production and Health (CUFAPH), is one of the seven specialized technical units of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations- Sub-regional office for Southern Africa (FAO SFS). In order to foster the growth of the livestock subsector and increase its contribution to achieving food security, improved nutrition, resilient livelihoods, income generation and wealth creation in Southern Africa, CUFAPH is mandated with coordinating technical support in areas of animal production and health. More specifically, the technical coordination unit deals with matters related to enhancing livestock production and productivity, disease surveillance and control, feed and food safety, livestock policy and regulatory frameworks, marketing and trade, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), one health (OH), and other relevant interventions for livestock development.

Reporting Lines
Under the direct supervision of the FAO Sub-Regional livestock development Officer and overall functional and administrative guidance of the FAO SFS Coordinator, in close collaboration with CUFAPH staff members and other relevant FAO technical staff at global, regional and country level the incumbent will undertake the following duties and responsibilities:

Technical Focus
The technical areas/profiles covered will be as follows:
The incumbent is expected to review project proposals, reports and policy briefs already developed by CUFAPH. Livestock sector review, livestock policy briefs and a programme proposal for One Health are some of the documents to be edited, formatted and uploaded to FAO Publication Workflow System. There are new project proposals and annual report to be prepared as well as updating CUFAPH database on consultants’ curriculum vitae (CVs), specification of inputs and TORs of services

Tasks and responsibilities
• Provide technical assistance to support CUFAPH in organizing stakeholders’ technical meetings/workshops
• Provide technical assistance to edit and format summary reports of the livestock sector review
• Contribute to editing, refining and formatting livestock policy briefs
• Upload the above mentioned reports and policy briefs to FAO Publication Workflow System and follow them up until final electronic publication
• Edit, refine and format OH situational analysis and OH Flagship Programme for Southern Africa proposal
• Develop OH Strategic Plan for Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe
• Submit CUFAPH annual report for 2022
• Perform desk review of the TADs situation in southern African countries
• Formulate and cost TADs control programme
• Contribute to the finalization of CUFAPH database on consultants
• Prepare and submit end of assignment report (covering contract period) that outlines challenges, achievements and recommendations;

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements
• Advanced university degree in Animal health, or animal production or related fields
• At least 8 years of solid experience, technical specialization and proven experience working on international development issues with emphasis on animal health and production as well as One Health related issues
• Working knowledge (Level C) of English and limited knowledge (Level B) of one of the other FAO languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish). For PSA, working knowledge of English

Technical/Functional Skills
• Excellent writing skill in English, proposal writing and proven analytical skills and ability to synthesize findings from diverse materials and sources.
• Work experience in the SADC region or at least in two of the countries in Southern Africa
