Job summary

We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic Health Care Support workers, there are two full time posts to work within Rowan House AATU who providing specialist care for people with learning disabilities, we are part of Swansea Bay University Health Board’s Mental Health and Learning Disability Delivery Unit.

The successful candidate will be required to work as part of a seven-day service, which includes weekend, nights and bank holidays.

Rowan House offers a dynamic and challenging work environment, in a busy Acute assessment and treatment unit, supporting adults with Learning Disabilities who present with behaviours which can challenge. We aim to provide a high quality, person centred approach based on the Positive Behaviour Support model.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work closely with qualified nursing staff to contribute to the care and development of patients a holistic delivery of care and services which are coherent and consistently applied. They will promote equality for all service users through anti discriminatory practice, supporting individuals’ rights, choices, beliefs and identity and by supporting individuals through effective communication.

Qualifications Essential

  • Ability to achieve NVQ Level 3
  • Ability to undertake and complete BTEC Advanced Certificate

SKILLS & ABILITIES Essential

  • Ability to work effectively with others as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills, ability to actively listen.
  • Ability to work unsupervised once directed.
  • Good interpersonal skills, ability to quickly develop therapeutic relationships.

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES – Essential

  • Reliable, flexible and adaptable, able to work rotational shifts over a twenty-four-hour period, seven days per week.
  • Have a good sense of personal boundaries and limitations, ability to seek clarification/guidance when required.
