Job summary

Are you an experienced Healthcare Assistant looking for the next step in your career?

If so, this could be the opportunity you are looking for…

This is your chance to be part of an amazing nursing team – where patient care is at the centre of everything we do. Do you want to make a difference to each patient’s experience of the NHS as they proceed through their journey?

The Acute Medical Unit provides emergency medical care for 56 acutely ill patients who require admission and medical investigations under the expert care of our admitting emergency medical physicians within our trust. We have a commitment to ensuring that every patients experience on admission is of the highest quality. We require Emergency Medical Technicians, (EMT’s) who are energetic, forward thinking, flexible, self-motivated and who have care, compassion and courage at the core of their nursing vision, coupled with the ability to work autonomously. We provide our patients with a true multi-disciplined team that can support our patients in their health needs with our own ward based therapy team.

It is expected that you work closely with the nurse in charge and the multi disciplinary team to achieve a positive patient experience. This job will require candidates to be able to prioritise and work under pressure according to demand.

Main duties of the job

The Acute Medical Unit at the Royal Cornwall Hospital is looking for Emergency Medical Technicians who will also be able to work as a senior Healthcare Assistant on occasions to work alongside Staff Nurses within the team delivering direct care at the bedside. AMU is a fast-paced unit, split in 2 wards, providing care for patients with wide-ranging acute medical care needs under a variety of medical specialties, directly admitted from the Emergency Department or the Same Day Medical Assessment Unit.

To be successful you will be caring, be able to work as a team player, be motivated and understand how important good communication is with both patients and colleagues. In return, you will be part of a friendly, supportive team and be rewarded with knowing that you have made a difference to patients each day.

Main roles of the EMT include supporting junior HCA’s, cannulation, venepunture, ECG’s, arterial blood gasses and bladder scanning
