Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, reliable person to work within the Children’s Community Nursing Team to support the team with stock control, day-to-day coordination of medical equipment, and provision of supplies and medical equipment to service users.

The role will include:

  • Monitoring and maintaining stock levels of nursing supplies and equipment, placing orders, receiving and storing deliveries and investigating any discrepancies.
  • Maintaining clean and tidy storage areas.
  • Maintaining records of medical equipment used by clinical team and service users, cleaning equipment and coordinating repairs and regular maintenance checks.
  • Delivering equipment/supplies to service users.
  • Disposal of clinical waste items.
  • Reporting maintenance and minor works issues.

The successful candidate will need to have a full driving licence and have access to a car, and will be self-motivated, professional and conscientious with good attention to detail, the ability to prioritise effectively to meet the needs of the service and be a team player. We are looking for an individual who will demonstrate excellent organisational and communication skills, verbal and written, and who is computer literate.

The successful candidate will undergo Enhanced DBS and Occupational Health clearances; the role requires travel to patient homes, and involves close working with clinicians in acute hospitals and external agencies.

Main duties of the job

  • To attend and contribute to team meetings
  • Share responsibility of indirect patient contact tasks such as answering telephones, arranging appointments and inputting activity
  • To act in accordance with the Local Safeguarding Children’s Board policies and procedures, attending regular safeguarding supervision sessions and training
  • Be aware of child protection issues and procedures, always referring to Line manager or safeguarding team for
  • Undertake health promotion / education as required, e.g. smoking cessation, pressure care
  • Be aware of new developments and research findings related to own role, taking responsibility for competence in
  • To assist the nursing staff in emergency situations [e.g. cardiac or respiratory arrest, major incident]
  • To work a flexible shift pattern dependent on service need

Job responsibilities

To contribute to the delivery of nursing interventions for Children and Young People with complex and / or acute needs and their families to reduce acute care and promote self-care within community settings To work within the Childrens Community Nursing Team to facilitate early discharge from hospital

To work within the Childrens Community Nursing Team to prevent unnecessary admission to hospital To work with all health care professionals, and statutory/non- statutory agencies to provide a seamless, integrated service to our service users.

To assist with medical and nursing clinics by carrying out patient monitoring and observations

To work with the childrens community nursing team to ensure resources are available and used in a financially sustainable way

The post holder will:

Apply competency-based treatment techniques/care to Children and Young People with specific conditions under the supervision of a qualified practitioner. Make basic judgements on patients response to prescribed treatment/care plans, and report findings to a qualified practitioner.

Plan and prioritise own visits to delegated patients, documenting these within SystmOne Ensure patient held records are completed where necessary and that SystmOne inputting is done in line with Trust policy

To support Registered nurses with the implementation of care plans and/or updating the Childs care plans as required.

Liaise with other healthcare professionals as required.

Communicate with Children and Young People and their carers by exchanging factual information, reassurance, tact and empathy.

Establish and maintain appropriate working relationships with colleagues, patients, carers and other health care professionals.

Demonstrate dexterity and coordination when undertaking treatment of Children and Young People where accuracy is important, e.g. blood sampling

Be responsible for ensuring equipment is maintained appropriately, and used safely, following relevant training.

Will be exposed to bodily fluids, infected material, blood products on a daily basis, therefore must utilise universal precautions and adhere to infection control policies.

To maintain clinical stock levels for the nursing teams through the ordering and receipt of goods.

To maintain the clinical stock cupboard ensuring stock is tidy, accessible and rotated accordingly.

Prepare clinical stock for distribution to clinicians and to families when needed.

Maintain Spread sheet of all costs for supplies for patients.

Maintain a record to monitor the servicing of identified equipment, supporting the collection and return of the equipment to families where needed.

To prepare and stock clinic rooms at the Childrens Centre, ensuring all toys / activities used are cleaned in line with NCHC Infection Control policy.

To operate a regular clinic at various NCHC settings across Norfolk taking baseline observations of height, weight, head circumference and blood pressure. To record observations on the Systm1 record and to escalate any deviations from standard perimeters to the senior clinician on duty.

Act as a chaperone if required.

Work with qualified practitioners with group work/clinics as required.

To gather information about the Childs development, communication and annual educational goals by visiting them at School or early years setting and attending annual education reviews where appropriate.

Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of consent and gain consent as appropriate following organisational policies.

To attend keyworker or multi-disciplinary meetings as required.

To maintain good liaison about all aspects of work, communicating fully andappropriately with all relevant persons.

Essential

  • NVQ 2 Health and Social Care or equivalent knowledge and experience demonstrated in application

Desirable

  • Nursery Nurse Qualification / NVQ 3 Health and Social Care
  • Knowledge of practical childcare

Experience
