Job Description
Ecocash Holdings is looking for a competent Underwriting Manager to join its Econet Life team. The main purpose of this job is to ensure that the technical soundness (in terms of actuarial profitability and terms and conditions) for new products is adequate and profitable. Also, to ensure the level of insurance risk taken by the company is properly accounted for and adequately priced in line with each product’s terms and conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manages the development of insurance products, including the terms and conditions of insurance contracts to ensure profitability and alignment regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures that the product terms and conditions are properly worded to cover the insurance risk that the business actually intends to cover.
  • Sets the pricing and benefits of all new and existing products along with estimation of the capital required to underwrite the product.
  • Ensures that the risk taken by the business is acceptable and, if so, the appropriate premium is charged and is in line with the terms and conditions of the cover.
  • Assesses, in consultation with relevant stakeholders, the level of insurance risk carried by the company under each business line and make recommendations to optimize the risk carried versus the profit being realized.
  • Develops, prices and assesses the adequacy of reinsurance arrangements and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements on reinsurance.
  • Assesses the sufficiency, accuracy and quality of data used in the Actuarial Valuation Report.
  • Reviews training presentations and participates in training of sales force on underwriting processes and other technical insurance topics.
  • Build strong relationship with reinsurers and actuaries in ensuring that the business products are properly priced and risk adequately managed.

Required skills

  • Degree in Actuarial Science/Statistics/Mathematics/Economics or equivalent
  • A post-graduation qualification in Actuarial or Insurance a mustStrong interpersonal & communication skills
