Job summary

Healthcare Assistants are an important part of the ward team, providing direct patient care alongside a team of Registered Nurses, Doctors and other members of the Multidisciplinary team.

Duties include providing assistance as required with personal care, feeding, toileting, observations and pressure area care. Also, maintaining a clean environment, following infection control requirements and completing accurate documentation of care given. The ability to work within a team is essential.

Healthcare Assistants work as part of a team to provide high quality, compassionate care in a hospital setting.

It is an excellent opportunity to learn the role of a Healthcare Assistant. Training and support will be given relevant to previous experience.

Successful applicants will be supported to complete the Care certificate. There is also the option to apply for English and Maths Functional skills to aid further progression, which can be discussed individually.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for full or part-time Health Care Assistants to join our nursing team based at the Conquest Hospital. The position will be based in our 28 bedded Trauma & Orthopaedic Ward providing 24 hour care. We strive to care within a multi-professional supportive team. We are looking for a person who has excellent interpersonal skills and is willing to learn, to join our friendly team. Previous experience working within a care setting is not essential but is desirable.The post holder will have the opportunity to enhance their basic skills and would be expected to work within a multidisciplinary team. The post holder will be expected to work flexibly on both day and night shifts.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 2 in Health and Social Care OR an acceptable, alternative Level 2 Qualification
  • Satisfactory General Education and Evidence of additional training relevant to role.

Desirable

  • National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 3 in Health and Social Care OR an acceptable, alternative Level 3 Qualification

Experience

Essential

  • 6 Months experience (current) in a Health or Social Care Environment

Desirable

  • Three months (within the last two years) experience of working in NHS

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Essential

  • Ability to work under instruction from a Registered Practitioner with direct supervision and support
