Job summary

The main function of the post includes coordinating cleaning of incubators cots, stocking up consumables, checking and ordering stock through Procurement. It also includes baby clothes’ laundry and other specified tasks, to ensure a safe and clean environment.

The post holder will be expected to work as part of the unit team, and be responsible for ensuring the delivery of a wide range of activities to support the maintenance of a high quality environment for patients, colleagues and visitors.

Main duties of the job

A member of the multidisciplinary team, who with support of the neonatal nursing staff, will provide individualised, family-centred care to babies in preparation for discharge home from the special care nursery.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will:

  • Work within the ward team to ensure that the environment is clean.
  • Proactively seek ways of improving matters relating to the environment.
  • In partnership with team members ensure the provision of a high quality cost effective service.
  • Be able to effectively communicate with service providers such as estates and facilities to ensure a high quality service.
  • Assist in basic administrative duties such as answering the telephones to Trust standard, welcoming families to the unit, keeping records of housekeeping activities.
  • Assist and support parents / carers as requested.
  • Undertake basic safeguarding children.

  • Has worked with new born or young babies

  • You are able to communicate effectively to ensure high standards of care, treatment, service or support as appropriate to your role
  • Able to provide a customer focussed service
  • Ability to work in partnership with parents/carers.

  • Ability to work independently following delegation of work by senior members of the team.
