Rationale
The purpose of this post which will be supported by the Multi-Partner Trust Fund (MPTF) grant is to support the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare (MOHCC) Zimbabwe in setting up and/or strengthening the national Healthcare-Associated infection (HAI) Surveillance at National Level and at Sally Mugabe and Parirenyatwa Hospitals to prevent the transmission of infectious diseases, among patients and staff.
Overall Responsibilities
Under the overall leadership and guidance of the AMR Focal Point in liaison with the Directorate of Nursing Services and oversight of the National IPC Coordinator, the HAI Consultant will assist in the development and implementation of National HAI surveillance activities and liaison with relevant MOHCC departments to the organization of HAI surveillance activities within the MOHCC. He/she will work under the oversight of the National Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Manager. Evidence generated will contribute to the strengthening of IPC practices and updating of the IPC training curricula for pre-and in-service training and relevant modules. The HAI Consultant will be based within the Nursing Directorate in the MOHCC
Specific Responsibilities
Act as a resource person in HAI matters with the MOHCC under the direction of the Director of Nursing Services and
Participate in the organization of HAI meetings within the MOHCC and with other stakeholders
Assist in the organisation of relevant HAI workshops country-wide
The HAI Consultant will participate as a co-opted member of the relevant IPC working groups and committees when required
Collaborate with the various MOHCC and partners in providing mentorship and monitoring and evaluation of HAI surveillance implementation
Support the National IPC Coordinator to provide progress reports to keep the Director of Nursing Services updated on HAI-related activities

Qualifications And Skills
Essential:
First-degree Medical Microbiology or Nursing
Master’s degree in Medical Microbiology or Clinical Epidemiology
Desirable
Diploma in Infection Prevention and Control or Higher qualification in IPC
Experience (5 Years)
Experience in investigating HAI infections and antimicrobial resistance
Technical Skills
Ability to use Microsoft products: MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
Ability to write comprehensive but concise reports and analyse data
Have good analytic and writing skills to produce relevant IPC reports for the ministry and other stakeholders
Excellent oral and communication skills
Computer literate with good word processing skills
Ability to work in a team setting
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Language Skills
Essential: Expert knowledge (written and spoken fluency) of English.
