POSITION: SKILLED WORKER 1 AUTOELECTRICIAN (2 POSITIONS)
GRADE: 9

REPORTING TO: FOREMAN AUTOELECTRICIAN

LOCATION: AUTOMOTIVE WORKSHOP (BISHOP GAUL AVENUE)

DEPARTMENT: WORKS

Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons to fill in the above
mentioned vacancies in the Automotive Workshop in the Mechanical and Electrical Services
Division of the Department of Works.

JOB PURPOSE

Responsible for the autoelectrical repairs and maintenance of Council fleet.

KEY RESULT AREAS

  • Tests and restores integrity of electrical circuits and components
  • Overhauls starter motors and alternators
  • Rewires autoelectrical circuits
  • Carries out fault diagnosis and rectification on electrical circuits, batteries,
    regulators, diodes, stabilizers including light focusing.

  • Trains and supervises semiskilled workers, apprentices and assistants and students.
  • Implementation of procedures relating to health and safety in line with Factories and
    Works Act.
  • Ensures proper housekeeping.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Auto Electrical Apprenticeship Certificate (with National Certificate in Automotive
    Engineering) or Skilled Worker Class 1 Journeyman Certificate in AutoElectrical
    Engineering with 5 years handson post qualification experience.

  • National Craft Certificate in Auto Electrical
  • Trade tested Skilled Worker Class 1 Auto Electrician
  • 5 ‘O’ Levels including English, Maths and Science
  • At least Class 4 Driver’s license

SKILLS AND DESIRED COMPETENCES

  • Be able to use modern diagnosis tools
  • Be able to understand electrical drawings and colorcoding.
  • Be able to converse in English and understand the technical language.
  • Be able to understand electronic ignition systems and controls
  • Strong hands on experience with electrohydraulic components

Be self motivated and be able to work alone with minimum supervision.
